Meant to launch some time ago, technical difficulties since determined to be a unique happenstance delayed the deployment. It marks JAL's second international line, but hopefully not its last.
Japan Airlines Co. on Monday launched a new daily round-trip service from Narita airport to Helsinki using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
JAL had planned to start flying to the Finnish capital on Feb. 25 using the fuel-efficient plane but had to delay it after regulators grounded all 787s worldwide when one owned by All Nippon Airways Co. was forced to make an emergency landing Jan. 16 due to a battery-related problem.
JAL and ANA — the world’s two largest operators of the 787 — put their fleets back into service on June 1, but they are still experiencing minor troubles that have caused cancellations and delays.
