via Santiago Times Finally some incredibly significant and good news is coming out of Santiago in regards to crime: In 2012, crime took a huge drop, which not only should make travelers feel a lot better about going to Chile, but locals should have an easier time feeling comfortable as well.
According to the latest Report on Major Crimes of Social Connotation (DMCS), complaints and arrests related to major violent crimes – which include theft, robbery, rape and homicide – decreased from 2011 to 2012 by 9.5 percent.
The record statistic indicates that 57,199 less people fell victim to major crimes across Chile.
The crime which boasted the largest reduction was robbery using violence or intimidation, which decreased by 12.7 percent. Other crimes decreased significantly as well, including homicide, by 11.8 percent, theft by surprise, by 10.6 percent, and rape, by 9.6 percent. Read More on santiagotimes.cl
