As an idyllic beach getaway or an eye-opening inner city adventure, holidays at both ends of the Thai spectrum bring their own delights.

After arriving at Bangkok’s vast Suvarnabhumi International Airport, the humidity of the place hits home straight away and the traffic-heavy drive into the city and bright hazy skies are signs of things to come.

Bangkok is awe-inspiring – a cocktail of multi-storey modernity weaved in and around worn-in waterways and traditional fishing boats.

As I stepped out from our temporary home – the towering 34-storey Amari Watergate hotel, in Bangkok’s Pratunam District – the reality of the hustle and bustle of this Asian metropolis dawned on me.
