'Another Country' A welcome change from protests and discord, the Thessaloniki International Film Festival is due to begin Friday in the city of Athens. Ending November 11th, the festival will focus on the productions of independents and new artists to the field in addition to a tribute to the fallen Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos.
The Thessaloniki International Film Festival kicks off on Friday with a screening at the flagship Olympion Theater of «Holy Motors» by Leos Carax, and a program that features 150 films from around the world, including a showcase of recent Greek productions.
Focused on awarding the efforts of independent filmmakers and new artists, the jury of the International Competition is made up by Thomas Elsaesser, the German film theorist and academic; Laufrey Gudjonsdottir, a programmer, consultant and founding director of the Icelandic Film Center; Danish filmmaker Ole Christian Madsen; Portuguese director Joao Pedro Rodrigues and Greek cinematographer Thymios Bakatakis.
