The long-awaited Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort has officially opened! Located on the pristine shores of the Kona Coast on a sacred stretch of coastline, the new resort bridges together culture, history, and sustainability and seeks to usher in a new era of Hawaiian hospitality.
An inspired reimagination of the original Kona Village Resort, which first opened in the 1960s and subsequently shuttered in 2011, the Rosewood brand’s first flag in Hawaii brings a familiar silhouette back to the island’s horizon. Working together with Kennedy Wilson, the innovative real estate investment company renowned for its commitment to responsible and sustainable development in Hawaii, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts® is proud to introduce a resort experience that honors the elements that made the island hideaway so beloved while deepening the property’s connection to its cultural legacy and key values.
Spanning 81 acres of stunning geologic landscape, Kona Village is guided by Rosewood’s A Sense of Place® philosophy, drawing inspiration from Ka'upulehu’s heritage, culture, and natural surroundings. The resort is designed to uphold and honor the land’s centuries-long legacy of stewardship, with sustainability woven throughout the guest and resort experience.
Highlights include:
· 150 thoughtfully designed stand-alone hale and kauhale that blend heritage and modern luxury. Featuring oversized lanai, many with outdoor showers, the hale pay homage to the resort’s legacy by weaving in Hawaiian artisan touches.
· An aesthetic curated by some of the greatest talents in architecture, design, and horticulture. With structures crafted by Hawaii-raised architect, Greg Warner of Walker Warner Architects, designed by San Francisco-based interior design firm, NICOLEHOLLIS, and lush grounds groomed by VITA Planning & Landscape Architecture.
· A dedicated cultural center pays tribute to the site’s history and the many sacred archeological sites it is home to.
· An Asaya® Spa at Kona Village offers a unique interpretation of Rosewood’s integrative wellness concept. With a menu of therapies inspired by the spiritual quality and natural landscape of the resort’s location.
· Five food and beverage concepts that deftly blend Pacific Rim flavors with the natural bounty of Hawaii Island, sourcing ingredients from locations as close as the resort’s garden, Kahiko Mala'ai.
The property’s thoughtful development prioritized environmental responsibility and care for local culture, providing a way for today’s modern traveler to respectfully experience Hawaii. With a dedicated cultural leadership team consulted every step of the way, this new property has sought to keep its mana—or sacred energy of the land intact for visitors to experience for years to come.
