Vidanta Vallarta, one of the top rated hotels in Mexico, will host the first PGA tournament in history taking place on the Pacific coast of Mexico from April 25 to May 1, 2022.
Group Vidanta will host the PGA Tour for the Mexico Open at the resort, home to two of the region’s premier courses—The Nayar Course and the Norman Signature Course—plus the 10-hole, par-3 The Lakes Course, the new Vidanta Golf Academy, and the longest golf cart suspension bridge in the world.
The Mexico Open, which dates back to 1944 and is considered Mexico’s national championship, will appear on the PGA TOUR schedule for the first time as an official FedExCup event, offering 500 FedExCup points to the winner and a purse of $7.3 million. The 132 players will include 12 sponsor exemptions, with a minimum of four players from Latin America.
Since 2017, Grupo Salinas partnered with the PGA TOUR to stage a TOUR event in Mexico – the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship – with efforts to inspire and grow the game in the country. Starting in 2022, the Mexico Open will continue Grupo Salinas’ commitment, uniting the PGA TOUR with the history of professional golf in Mexico in the form of the Mexico Open.

The Mexico Open will feature the most important golfers, including Carlos Ortiz, Vidanta Resorts ambassador and the first Mexican to win during the PGA Tour since 1978. Ortiz has been a major player in both the national and international world of golf and has helped promote Mexico as a potential host for international golf events such as this.
