Adare Manor: The Definitive Luxe Golf Destination in Ireland

Sep. 28th, 2019

A hallmark of a memorable travel destination is its ability to make guests feel as if they are home – regardless of their point of origin. The recently completed renovation of Adare Manor does just this and so much more. Built nearly 200 years ago on more than 800 acres of pristine parkland, Adare has successfully transformed itself into the definitive location to experience both the treasured feel of Irish hospitality with the comfort of a world-class luxury resort. Whether strolling through the gardens, taking afternoon tea in the Gallery Room, or relaxing in Manor House’s magnificent environs, visitors are treated to an experience unlike anywhere else on the Emerald Isle.

Upon your arrival at the stately Manor House, you’ll be warmly greeted by a host of footmen, butlers, and reception staff – all calling you by name. As you settle into your room, you’ll find a delightful combination of old-world elegance combined subtly with new-age technology. Lighting, drapes, and electronics are controlled through a central tablet by the bedside. Even the lavatory floors are heated. Guests are encouraged to wander the parklands and explore the myriad activities offered by the staff. Whether your interests lean toward falconry, archery, or trout fishing in the ponds or streams, the professional staff stands at the ready to meet your needs. It’s easy to see why Adare Manor was awarded the 2019 AA Ireland Hotel of the Year Award.

Wandering through the grounds and the gardens will transport guests back to a simpler place and time. Adare Manor even has its own enchanted forest, replete with wind chimes, fairy houses and a poet’s hut. After you’ve strolled through the ruins of the Franciscan Friary, be sure to rest and relax under the canopy of the massive cedar tree next to the Manor House, which is reported to have been planted in 1645.

But the centerpiece of the property is certainly the magnificent Adare Manor Golf Course, proudly referred to as “The Augusta of Ireland”. Architect Tom Fazio has overseen the extensive redesign, where (in a nod to Augusta National) you’ll find no rough around the greens, creating challenging chipping and putting adventures for players of all skill levels. Perfectly manicured down to every blade of grass, golf at Adare is a surreal experience. Limerick native and owner J.P. McManus spared no expense in the redesign, and his efforts were recently rewarded with Adare Manor being selected to host the 2026 Ryder Cup. In addition, Adare Manor is ideally suited to serve as your home base for accessing Ireland’s world-class golf courses such as Ballybunion, Tralee, and Waterville. All are convenient day trips from Adare.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite on the course, the dining options at Adare abound. The Carriage House is a short stroll from the Manor House and offers an artisan grill experience with locally farmed produce, fresh seafood, and Irish dry-aged beef. In the Manor House, the Oak Room offers contemporary Irish cuisine with an elegant twist while you enjoy views of the grounds from its expansive windows. The Drawing Room offers a more casual dining experiences for those wishing to linger and soak up the ambience of the old Manor House while enjoying views of the gardens. As the evening progresses, a visit to The Tack Room is a must. Defined as “a sophisticated retreat for lovers of fine spirits and companionable conversation”, The Tack Room houses The Whiskey Collection – more than 100 bottles sourced from the best producers globally. The staff is happy to offer personal whiskey tasting experiences that are both educational and delicious. In addition, the award-winning bar staff have created some of the most intriguing and creative “bespoke cocktails” that please both the eye and the palate.

A short ten-minute stroll to the Manor gates delivers guests into the village of Adare. Founded in the 13thcentury on the banks of the River Maigue, the main street is a collection of beautiful stone buildings and thatched roof cottages surrounding a lovely village park. Most of the cottages are now restaurants, fashion boutiques and arts and crafts shops. For history buffs, it’s a short stroll to Desmond Castle, a 13thcentury Norman fortress chock full of stories. Visitors to the village will also find plenty of pubs in which to relax and enjoy local musicians during the evening hours.

For guests wishing to explore further south, Adare is the gateway to the southwest of Ireland, bordering the counties of Kerry, Cork, Clare, and Tipperary. The concierge staff at Adare Manor can arrange for day trips to enjoy the Ring of Kerry and explore the beautiful Irish countryside.

Adare Manor is located just thirty minutes from Shannon Airport and 190km from Dublin, making it the perfect location to enjoy the old-world splendor of all things Irish.
