Last week, HSBC’s Expat Explorer survey named Singapore as the best place to live and work for expats. Congrats, Lion City! With a focus on economics, experience and family, the survey queried 21,950 respondents in 39 countries. According to the Wall Street Journal, the results found that 59 percent of Singapore expats believed it is a good place to move up in their careers, 67 percent praised the city’s quality of living and 65 percent noted their children’s improved health and well-being.
The survey also stated that 28 percent of expats were earning more than $200,000 annually, which is 15 percent more than the global average for expats. Seen as a place of opportunity, 79 percent of those surveyed also expressed their confidence in the economy. The top 10 countries from the survey (in order from first to last) are: Singapore, New Zealand, Sweden, Bahrain, Germany, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and Switzerland.
