Wine-loving football fans rejoice, the Napa Valley Wine Train has officially kicked off its new Championship Wine Flight. The 36-mile journey will focus on wineries founded by NFL players including names like Charles Woodson, Dick Vermeil and Rick Mirer. Traveling from Napa to St. Helena, the specialty package is being held in honor of Super Bowl 50 which will be played in Santa Clara on February 7.
“We are delighted to welcome locals and visitors to join us on the Wine Train to enjoy our Championship Wine Flight, and we are equally thrilled to welcome Super Bowl 50 to the Bay Area in 2016,” said Anthony Giaccio, Napa Valley Wine Train’s CEO. “It has been our vision since the Wine Train’s inception to offer local wines that complement our fresh cuisine and reflect the heritage of the Napa Valley.”
The Championship Wine Flight will be held on lunch and dinner trains to accompany the cuisine, and Executive Chef Kelly Macdonald will be on-hand to suggest a wine pairing for each menu item. There will also be red, white and sweet wine flights available for those who wish to exclusively sample the drinks. Some of the NFL specialties will include Mirror Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2014 by former NFL Quarterback Rick Mirer, Vermeil Wines Russian River Chardonnay 2014 by former NFL Coach Dick Vermeil, Vermeil Wines XXXIV Proprietary Red Napa Valley 2010 and TwentyFour Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008 by Oakland Raider Safety Charles Woodson.
The Napa Valley Wine Train’s Championship Wine Flight will be held until February 7, 2016. Prices start at $124 per person, with a $20 wine flight. A portion of each flight sale is donated to the NFL Hall of Fame Players Foundation.
