If glittering lights are one of your favorite aspects of the holidays, you’ll want to visit Hall Wines’ Rutherford Chandelier Room. Sitting underground, below the Sacrashe Vineyard, the cave is considered one of the most beautiful wine tasting rooms in the Napa Valley, and houses more than 35 pieces of contemporary art, the most breathtaking of which is Chilean Red. Named as an anagram for chandelier, the lighting fixture was commissioned by Hall Wines’ vintner Kathryn Walt Hall and designed by artist Donald Lipski. A representation of a grapevine root, the piece contains 1,500 Swarovski crystals to bounce its glow around the room.
While the focal point is undoubtedly the room’s namesake, the subterranean cavern is a marvel in its own right. Constructed using reclaimed limestone and bricks from 19th century Austrian castles—a must for Hall who was formerly the United States Ambassador to Austria—the room was clearly designed with royalty in mind. Hand-finished by world-renowned wine cellar designer Friedrich Gruber and his team, the room is adjacent to the kitchens and includes a private wine library. Even the dining table was designed to highlight the beauty of the room with a cherry wood base and onyx tabletop to illuminate and reflect the glittering chandelier crystals.
