The “couch-surfing” San Francisco-based music company, SFJAZZ, is finally graduating into a place of its own. Established in 1983, the 30 year-old company was founded on a mere thousand dollars, and began performing in nearly 100 shows a year. The company is one of the nation’s most loved, but SFJAZZ began to feel its borrowed venues were becoming a bit too cramped. Having grown tremendously since its conception, fundraising and planning have landed the group a 35,000-square-foot home complete with adjustable risers, projection options and removable walls. The venue is said to be the largest standalone jazz center in the United States. The $64 million club was unveiled in Hayes Valley in San Francisco.
