The Napa Valley is known for its great wine scene, but The Napa Valley Film Festival is hoping to show that it is a lot more than that. With the catchy phrase “Do Napa," downtown Napa seeks to turn around the notion that the region is only for the middle-aged wine connoisseurs or honeymooners by offering specials, a commendable nightlife, live music, and elitist screenings of much-anticipated independent films during the festival. In the spirit of the occasion, downtown Napa will be offering a number of food spotting contests, VIP parties, and choice screenings as a part of lodging packages.
The opening night of the festival will include a screening of Somm, a film appropriately about the exam process of four aspiring sommeliers. The screen will only be available with one of these exclusive packages. This collaboration between Napa lodging properties, and the film festival is no doubt an attempt to expose a hipper, more exciting way to experience California’s wine country.
"The thriving downtown district” has no doubt been overlooked in the past, what with wineries and vineyards being the biggest tourist attraction in the area. Indeed, downtown Napa looks a lot like any other downtown, including over a dozen restaurants and a concert hall or two, as well as an average nightlife, including a few bars and restaurants with regular live music. And all of these things are within walking distance of the 44 downtown hotels, in case the wine goes to your head.
