Talk about bad timing. Early Tuesday morning, the Ritz Paris’ seventh floor caught fire and spread to the attic and roof. This comes just months before the renovated hotel was set to reopen on March 20. Fire crews were alerted at 7 a.m. local time, and the area was blocked off during rush hour while 60 firefighters and 15 fire engines quickly diminished the flames. Although it was quickly contained, two suites and parts of the roof were damaged and will further delay its reopening. None of the 150 workers who were inside at the time of the incident were injured.
Closed in 2012 for renovations, the Ritz Paris is one of the most anticipated re-openings of 2016 and underwent a $22-million transformation. Part of the property’s new additions is a tunnel that is said to transport high-profile guests through the hotel in privacy. It will also be home to the world's first-ever Chanel Spa, which will feature the luxury brand's products and treatments.
