Unable to find the type of leather bags and service she was searching for, Edwina de Charette found herself working for a independent craftsman in Paris, before launching her own workshop of leather goods. Founder and designer, Charette opened laContrie as a workshop for creating a made-to-measure leather working service.
From her two-story shop, she produces bags, small goods and accessories with only the finest of materials. Sourced from the best French tanners, their skins offer high-quality options and inimitable textures. Their exotic skins, all with different characteristics, come from animals bred in captivity.
laContrie is also the place to go when you’re interested in making a bag that fits your unique self. Notrably, laContrie never makes the same bag twice. After choosing a model from her collection, clients can select the leather, colors and lining for their new item and watch the bag being made right in front of them.
The custom-designed bag also includes handles and straps that are made-to-order. When the product is nearly done, initials, names or dates can be inscribed with a hot-stamping tool.
If you’re in a hurry, you can also purchase ready-made purses in an array of styles and colors from the store or online. The workshop is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is located at 11 rue de la Sourdière in Paris’ first arrondissement.
