Imagine a food court in which instead of Sbarro and Panda Express, there were eateries led by chefs Thomas Keller, José Andrés and Costas Spiliadis. Come 2018, that will basically be a reality for New Yorkers, thanks to the upcoming Hudson Yards.
Hudson Yards is a unique $20 million mixed-use development that will be a new Manhattan neighborhood along the Hudson River. As the biggest NYC real estate project since Rockefeller Center, it will include 16 skyscrapers that hold offices, residences, retail spaces, a hotel, a small school, bars and restaurants. There will also be around 14 acres dedicated solely to public use.
Though Chef Keller was already signed on to lead the project’s restaurant collection, the addition of Andrés and Spiliadis is a big deal. Spiliadis has gained a strong reputation for his Mediterranean cuisine and already has a restaurant in The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas and one in New York. The James Beard award-winning Andrés is a real catch, having been named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2012. There had been rumors flying for years about whether or not he would open a spot in NYC, with a confirmation from SLS hotels that he will be soon opening The Bazaar.
Between the three of them (plus whoever else Keller brings on), Hudson Yards can easily become one of the world’s premiere dining destinations.
