Drinking libations at the movies is becoming a pretty regular thing across the nation. And while movie-goers in New Orleans have already been enjoying their favorite adult beverages at local theaters, they are now being treated to special holiday cocktails as they watch this season’s films.
At The Theatres at Canal Place, carefully planned cocktail menus are introduced every quarter and an in-theater dining experience is available which includes reserved seating. On this year’s winter menu, there are half a dozen new cocktails such as the Satsuma Sidecar made with brandy, Bayou Satsuma Rum Liqueur, ginger liqueur and house-made sour mix; and the The Three Amigos with tequila, apple cider, apple liqueur, and Grand Marnier. Many of the drinks also feature local and house-made ingredients.
In November, Movie Tavern’s Convington theater launched new food menus and drinks specials recently which offer fall flavors such as the HazelChata Martini and the FireChata milkshake made with RumChata. Filmgoers can also get wines and bottle or draft beers as they watch their featured flicks. Movie Tavern has already seen more seats filled with the addition of their casual-dining and bar service added to venues.
One of the biggest movie chains in the nation, AMC Theatres recently got into the holiday spirit with their trio of creamy and dessert-type alcoholic drinks like the Berry Frost made up of mixes crushed raspberries, pomegranate liqueur, Sprite, vodka and fruit juices.
So if you’re headed to the movies this winter, be sure to check out which locations offer full bars and seasonal cocktails (if you’re of age, of course). What could be better than watching Katniss Everdeen rally the troops to overtake The Capital with a nice Peppermint Snowball in hand? Exactly, not much.
