While most major cities have their own tree lighting ceremony, not everyone has a Christmas event quite like this. This season in Italy, the city of Milan, in collaboration with Swarovski, set up a 39-foot Christmas tree in the center of the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Decorated with over 10,000 ornaments and illuminated with 36,000 lights, the festive installation is part of the Crystal Living exhibit that showcases decades of Swarovski animals, collectables and home accents. Swarovski has Christmas trees set up around the world including those in Innsbruck, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Hong Kong and Shanghai as well as the Swarovski star that sits atop the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center.
“This tree is a precious gift, right in the heart of the Galleria, and testifies to the elegance and style of the creations of Swarovski,” said Filippo Del Corno from the Department of Culture “The synergy between public and private [companies]…has produced an important result for Milan.”
