If you are tired of all of those typical luxury hotel “romance packages” including but a few chocolate-covered pieces of fruit and a glass of champagne, you’re probably not alone. These days, most people want a unique and exciting Valentine's Day experience that creates memories to last a lifetime—especially when they are trying to pamper, impress, or connect with the one they love. To help inspire some out-of-the-box romance this February, we found some pretty special, intimate, quirky, and over-the-top "hideouts" around the world. You may just want to disappear together to one of these private and opulent retreats, or find a secluded spot to call your own for years to come.
Sofitel So Bangkok
The newly opened Sofitel So Bangkok combines elegant French luxury with Thai hospitality in this 238-room urban hotel that offers a romantic oasis from the bustling world around you. The accommodations are based on the five elements (water, earth, wood, metal and fire), to ensure that each room fits guests' moods. Setting the stage for love are guest rooms like the So Lofty Suite, a spacious area equipped with His and Her YTSARA luxury spa products and decorative features by Monsieur Christian Lacroix available in your choice of water, wood or metal designs.
When you're not hiding out in your room, head up to the tenth floor where the hotel's Waterclub allows vacationing couples to relax by the infinity pool complete with underwater music, or dance the night away to a live DJ at the many pool parties held here. When the two of you want some alone time, escape to the Solarium Oasis Lawn. Here, under the shade of trees and surrounded by lush greenery, watch the sun sink behind the skyscrapers of Bangkok. Bring your favorite cocktail and let the hotel prepare you a gourmet picnic for two filled with light snacks like salads, sandwiches or healthy bento boxes.

The Hotel Shangri-La Santa Monica
The Hotel Shangri-La is situated in the heart of Santa Monica, positioned high above the Pacific Ocean, looking out onto breathtaking seascapes and the city's hottest nightlife. This Valentine’s Day, surprise your special someone with an experience you can almost be certain none of your friends can also brag about. Instead of running the usual bubble bath for your lover, try seducing them with bubbles of a different variety. Allow The Bath Concierge to come draw a champagne bath for two in your oversized soaking tub with your choice of one of four different types of bubbly. The temperature is adjusted as needed and the concierge returns (dangerously blindfolded) with a tray of gourmet canapés to share. He will then back away slowly and let the romance begin. The price for this service is dependent upon the type of champagne you choose to splash in: Cristalino Bath ($4,500); Gruet Bath ($10,000); Schramsberg Rose Bath ($17,500); and Perrie Jouet Bath ($22,500).

Il Sogno di Giulietta
There are plenty of places around the world that use the words “love” or “romance” in their catchphrases, but few of them can boast being the setting of, arguably, the most famous romance ever written. Il Sogno di Giulietta, or Juliet's Dream, in Verona allows you and your beloved to relive the captivating love story of Romeo and Juliet, as you will be sharing a courtyard with the “house of Juliet.” The courtyard and “Juliet’s balcony” are a major tourist attraction in the center of Verona, but after the sun sets, only Il Sogno di Giulietta guests have access to the enchanted landmark.
As if the hotel’s location was not romantic enough, they also offer a package that will have you both taking in a private rendition of a scene from Romeo and Juliet and a cozy horse-drawn carriage tour of Old Town Verona. The experience also includes a welcome bottle of champagne, a night in the Luxury Precious suite, in-room breakfast, a Jacuzzi room with scented salts, a candlelight dinner for two with sommelier suggested wines, passes and a guided tour of museums around the city, and dedicated concierge service all starting around $1,660 per person.

The Red Kite Tree Tent
If you really want to get away from it all, there’s really no better place to do it than in a tree house, right? Luxury holiday cottage and house provider Sheepskinlife thinks so, and is now featuring a glamping experience in the UK's beautiful woodlands. The Red Kite Tree Tent is a hanging sphere equipped with electricity and either two twin beds, or a double bed, which can be folded into a sofa. Because of the small size of the accommodations, you and your loved one are sure to get closer as you warm up by the wood burner or lounge on the seating deck watching the sun set.
Nearby is the natural plunge pool, great for a midnight rendezvous or an afternoon picnic. The tent facilities include a restroom area with an outdoor wood-fired shower which are located on the raised wooden platform that leads up to the entrance of the tent. As with a stay at any Sheepskin cottage, you will be provided with a vacation guide based on your preferences, as well as given a Sheepskin signature welcome package and gift bag full of your personal requests and essentials. Take in the sights and sounds of nature in this quaint sanctuary for two for about $776 for five nights.

Four Seasons Resorts Maldives
This Valentine’s Day, treat yourself and your favorite person to a romantic moonlit spa treatment in the dead of night. You and your loved one will be transported by boat from your private villa across the resort’s lagoon to the Island Spa. Upon arrival at the mysterious and hidden Night Spa, you will be offered refreshments in the open-air, torch-lit lounge, later to be escorted to your choice of treatments based on the four lunar cycles.
The Reflect new moon treatment is said to rid the body and mind of toxins and allow you to relax; The Nourish treatment is based on the waxing gibbous, nourishing and strengthening the body using poultice massages and conditioning night sky facials; The Harmonize treatment is a full moon offering and features restorative and rejuvenating rituals and facials, along with the healing vibrations of a Tibetan singing bowl. The waning gibbous inspired the Release treatment, where you are relieved of toxins and negativity using mineral seaweed wraps, an aroma cleansing massage, and lymphatic stimulation. Each treatment lasts two and a half hours and is $1,000 per couple.

Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Fiji
Positioned on 17 acres of a former coconut plantation, the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is offering couples a private experience based around the resort's beautiful natural and cultural surroundings. Couples spend their stay either in bures (traditional Fijian thatched-roof huts) or in the resort villa, which features an infinity pool, day bed pavilion, sunken bathroom with Jacuzzi, and a walled garden for a luxurious and intimate television-free accommodations to reconnect.
When just putting the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door doesn't offer quite enough seclusion, perhaps a day on your own private island will. If you are the type that wants to be chauffeured there, the resort’s boat will drop you off; for the more adventurous couples, there’s always the option of kayaking or snorkeling over by yourselves. A Fijian chef will prepare a gourmet lunch accompanied by a bottle of champagne to toast to your love. Couples are also encouraged to partake in an intimate dinner in one of Jean-Michel Cousteau’s many isolated spots around your own deserted paradise.

Grove Park Inn
When you and your partner want to be spoiled rotten with romance, Grove Park Inn in North Carolina is a good place to do it. Upon arrival, you will be picked up from the airport and chauffeured to the hotel in a Rolls Royce (later you are provided with a Land Rover for use during your five-night stay). You and your significant other will be comfortably accommodated in the Presidential Suite (which was actually occupied by President Obama and First Lady back in 2010), where a bottle of French Champagne will await you.
The two of you will be pampered with a bespoke spa day, with a choice between three treatments, and a lunch at the café. In addition, you will have your choice of private golf lessons, tennis lessons or an exhilarating rafting adventure before being whisked away on a private hot air balloon ride. Just when you thought the day of daring duo adventures is over, you'll both be taken away to zip line under the stars. And your time together is just getting started, as you will also have your very own cooking class with Duane Fernandes, Chef de Cuisine of on-site restaurant Horizons and have a romantic in-room dinner with a personal chef and sommelier. A $3,000 shopping spree at the Inn’s retail shops is also included to make you both look as special as you feel. This package filled with fun and plenty of quality time together is priced at $25,000.

Eco Serendib Villa and Spas
Eco Serendib Villa and Spa will make sure you and your beloved are waited on hand and foot by a number of dedicated staff, including a villa chef, romance concierge and a villa butler. The romance concierge works closely with you to make your dream getaway exceeds expectations. The whirlwind begins from the moment a helicopter picks you up at the airport and takes you to your own luxury villa where Armand de Brignac Champagne and Marky’s caviar will be served by your butler. After those refreshments, you will be revived by an "eight hands" couple's massage, sure to release all of that traveler’s tension and set the stage for an evening of relaxation and romance.
You will spend one of your five days at Eco Serendib Villa and Spa on the villa’s private yacht where you’ll be given a “treasure map” to help locate jewels buried under the sea. You’ll work together to comb the area for clues and with the help of a dive master, follow a trail of sunken artifacts to uncover your treasure. Lugano Diamonds jewelers will be the ones making sure when your special someone opens the chest on shore that they are blown away by what’s inside. You may work with the international jewelers to create a one-of-a-kind piece to surprise your lover worth $50,000. That night, cheers to your findings with your favorite cocktail in the privacy of your villa while enjoying a live performance on the baby grand piano. Dinner will be served under the stars by the villa’s chef, and all memories will be documented and put into an album to cherish for the rest of your years.
