Angelinos can now experience find French dining without having to travel halfway around the world thanks to the new Amour restaurant in West Hollywood.
This pretty Parisian Bistro is housed in the old Dominick’s spot. Diners enter via the small library where they can pick a book and leave a note for friends and dining companions.
The interior space is completely redesigned into a romantic and French design with hardwood floors directly from Paris, dark brown leather bar chairs, vintage scones, fine upholstered dining chairs and booths, a single candle at each table, dim lighting and beautiful cutlery and plates.
The patio is equally intimate and romantic with brick walls, cozy banquettes and alcove seating, a nice fireplace and plants and foliage.
Executive chef Dany Chavez-Bello, from Spain’s El Bulli and NYC’s Bouley) serves up French and Japanese fusion dishes.
If your pocketbook allows spring for the Chef’s Eight Course Tasting Menu which currently includes a spectacular Caledonia Blue Prawn Carpaccio with leche de tigre sauce; smoked Chwanmushi flan in truffle dashi with sea urchin and trout roe; a mushroom forager dish; Comte cloud with poached eggs and caviar; lobster in a lemongrass infusion; lavender duck breast with carrot puree and Romanesco; Wagyu with beet puree and allumette, mille feuille and Basque cheesecake. The chef also sent out an outstanding chocolate mousse for a bonus dessert.
The menu’s a la carte dishes include celery root carpaccio; Wagyu steak tartare; pumpkin soup; fennel and endive salads; lobster tagliatelle; truffle butter pasta, sole; steak au poivre; lamb saddle with spinach; boeuf bourguignon and steak with assorted mushrooms and a truffle glaze.
Everything on the tasting menu was outstanding and beautifully plated. We chatted with charming founder Thomas Fuks, who with his wife Abbie designed the lush interior. Fuks is highly successful with bringing an elegant refined French bistro to WeHo. Amour is the perfect place for Valentine’s dinner, an intimate birthday celebration or to catch up with friends in a big both or just to enjoy a fantastic French meal.
