West Coasters, soon you’ll no longer have to head to Atlanta to get in some racing time at the Porsche Experience Center (PEC). The luxury car brand is opening a second location for its driving experience in California. In 2015, the manufacturer opened its first PEC and North American headquarters in Georgia, and with The Golden State being a major market for the brand, the company decided to debut its new facility in Los Angeles County.
Located in Carson near Los Angeles, the purpose-built, 53-acre facility and road handling course is set to open next week at the intersection of the 405 and 110 freeways. Guests will be able to drive through performance modules such as the main circuit, off-road courses and Ice Hill, all behind the wheel of a sleek Porsche. The center currently offers six models to choose from: the 911, Boxster, Cayenne, Cayman, Macan and Panamera.
The 53-acre playground will feature a handling course designed to mimic a country road with a number of corners and undulations while Ice Hill has a 7 percent slope, computer-controlled water jets and a low friction surface. When the need for speed hits, drivers can experience the Acceleration Straight which a safe and controlled environment to fully explore how a Porsche accelerates.
Porsche Motorsport North America will also make Carson its new home inside a shared 50,000-square-foot space. The destination will also be home to a retail shop, dining options such as the fine dining 917 restaurant, event space, and state-of-the-art driving simulators. If looking to purchase your own vehicle, the brand’s Customer Consultation Specialist can help you work through ideas and designs to create your ideal car.
Driving rates range from $35 for 30 minutes to $850 for 1.5 hours inside a 911 Turbo. Prices are based on model and length of time behind the wheel.
