British Polo Day, sponsored by Land Rover, returns to the US on Saturday May 30. Held at the historic Will Rogers Polo Club in Pacific Palisades, the day of fast-paced polo and philanthropy will be hosted by President of the Will Rogers Polo Club Andrew Bossom, along with British Royal Lord Frederick Windsor and his wife actress and writer Sophie Winkler.
“It is with great pleasure that my wife Sophie and I are once again supporting British Polo Day in the United States. The unique event is set to be one of the most enjoyable and sought-after invitations in town,” said Lord Windsor in a release. “Given the charm, exuberance and strength of will that it has taken to forge this young enterprise, British Polo Day USA is certainly establishing itself right at the forefront of what is now a truly global network.”
Founded in 2009 by Edward Olver and his friend Tom Hudson as the only international polo network of its kind, the series has developed into an annual attraction spanning Abu Dhabi, Australia, China, Dubai, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Mexico, Morocco, Russia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and the US.
Here in California, guests will arrive in chauffeur-driven Range Rovers to a Taittinger Champagne reception and a quintessential British Harrods Garden Party. Following the day’s opening Brompton Bicycle Polo Match, guests will sit down to an exquisite lunch paired with wines from Royal Warrant holders Justerini & Brooks. Simultaneously, a gavel will announce the eagerly anticipated charity auction, supporting local Homeboy Industries alongside The UK Stem Cell Foundation. As part of their ongoing commitment to philanthropy, the British Polo Day series has raised almost $1.5 million for charities worldwide.
The afternoon’s polo will then begin with the Land Rover Will Rogers Plate, set to be an exciting competition between Harrow and home team The Will Rogers Polo Club. As the day draws to a close, Homeboy Industries will be serving a delicious afternoon tea while Lord Windsor presents the triumphant teams with their prize: a bespoke British Silver-designed Land Rover Will Rogers Plate and Hackett Cup.
