Ever since it was founded back in 1963, Annabel’s in London’s Mayfair neighborhood has stood as one of the world’s most-exclusive, members-only clubs. Though many elite organizations have a pretty large over 60 crowd, this place actually boasts a young membership base and some serious Hollywood heavyweights. Finally, after 50 years in operation, this high society haven is ready to make a major expansion that will open opportunities for an all-day lifestyle experience.
Over the years, people like Kate Moss, Grace Jones, Mick Jagger, Madonna, Frank Sinatra and Lady Gaga have all been seen either performing, relaxing or even DJing inside. Even the royals enjoy boogying at Annabel’s, with the likes of Princess Diana, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, and the Duke and Duchess of York all being photographed at one point leaving the basement club. With such a high profile clientele, it comes as no surprise that this place takes membership seriously. Two current members have to vouch for you before your application is even considered by the owners and if you get past that round, you have to submit a letter detailing why you’re cool enough to join.
According to Evening Standard, the owner has submitted a planning application with Westminster City Council to transform 46 Berkeley Square into a new home for the venue. Considering the club’s atmosphere is one of its most talked about features, the plans include recreating much of the current location’s details, including its fixtures, fittings, dance floor and the striped canopy at its entrance. New to Annabel’s will be a health club and a restaurant terrace, which will help bring the venue from night to day.
As for concept renderings and detailed plans, we’ll just have to wait until the designs are presented to Westminster in the spring.
