Americans have had a longtime fascination with British history and its posh culture. England's lush lands have produced some of the most well-known icons in music, literature, media and more. Crossing the Atlantic, names like The Beatles, Diana Princess of Wales, Doctor Who, William Shakespeare, David Beckham (we are sincerely grateful), and most recently, Downton Abbey, have all made their way into our homes.
Celebrating its history and 175th anniversary, Rocco Forte’s Brown’s Hotel in London has found a way to combine both a love of all things British and luxury travel in one grand experience. Lords Cars and Highclere Castle have partnered with the five-star hotel to offer guests a Vintage British Summer Package in royal fashion. Fans of Downton Abbey, or fans of massive English country houses, can be whisked away by a personal chauffeur to Highclere Castle to view one of England’s most beautiful Victorian mansions.
This historic castle is the backdrop for the award-winning series and those wanting a true Downton Abbey experience can ride in style in the Rolls-Royce that appeared in the show. Home to the Carnarvon family since 1679, visitors will be able to explore the estate and stroll through its gardens and the Egyptian Exhibition. Discovered by the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, the exhibition highlights the Tomb of the Egyptian Boy Pharaoh, Tutankhamun.
However, if you haven’t yet seen the show, you may be interested in the other British offerings included in the package. Guests may choose to travel as a royal in the Queen Mothers’ favorite car ‘The Ivy Baroness.’ Or maybe you’re more of a Mark Wahlberg fan and want an Italian Job kind of day, you’d elect for ‘The Grand Princess’ which sends you off in the Diamler used to collect Michael Caine’s character from prison.
Upon return from a day of sightseeing, guests can discuss their favorite moments over Brown’s 175th anniversary cocktail composed of Chase Elderflower Liqueur mixed with William Chase Gin and topped with English Sparkling Wine. To complete the experience, a signed copy of Lady Carnarvon’s New York Times’ bestseller Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey will be gifted to each package holder.
Those purchasing the Vintage British Summer Suite offer for four nights will receive a complimentary one-way airport transfer in a vintage Daimler Limousine and accommodations in a Junior Suite. This package runs July 15 to September 8, starting around $934 USD per night with daily breakfast provided by HIX Mayfair. For those looking to add in a trip to Highclere Castle, the day add-on will be available weekly, Sunday to Thursday until September 12. The addition costs around $1,335 USD.
