On May 5, Genting Group held a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Resorts World Las Vegas. Attended by city officials including Governor Brian Sandoval, Genting Group executives and Vegas power players like Steve Wynn, the ceremony was celebrated with traditional Chinese drummers and dragon dancers. Located on the site of the old Stardust Hotel across from Encore, the new property is slated to be a $4 billion, Chinese-themed mega resort and casino.
Covering 87 acres on the northern end of the strip, Resorts World Las Vegas will include 6,500 rooms and a 175,000-square-foot casino. The property will open in stages with the first phase unveiling 3,000 rooms, 3,500 table games and a large gaming floor casino opening in mid-2018.
“There's a lot of exciting development going on here. You have the SLS down the street. You have our neighbors down to the south with the Wynn and the Encore, and we think this is going to be the new portion of the Strip that's going to have amazing properties and amazing amenities that guests are going to truly want to visit,” Michael Levoff of Genting Public Affairs told 8 News Now.
Some of those exceptional amenities include a live panda exhibit, an indoor water park, an aquarium, a 4,000-seat theater and a replica of the Great Wall of China. The property will also have the feel of an Imperial village—from large stone walls to multi-tiered pagodas. Genting Group is hoping the authentic Chinese influence will “resonate with domestic and international tourists” and bring in high rollers from around the world.
