Move over, Tonka trucks, we’re ready to play with the big boys now. Yeah yeah, we’ve all done Vegas before, we know the drill. Maybe it’s time for something a little bit different, something that doesn’t involve an adult beverage. Crazy, right? This is where Dig This comes into play, a unique experience that lets you drive actual bulldozers and play on equipment you would normally only find at construction sites.
Here’s how it works:
First, you have to choose your equipment of choice. You’ll have your pick between Caterpillar D5G Track-Type Bulldozer, or an Caterpillar 3I5CL Hydraulic Excavator. If you choose a bulldozer some of the activities you could enjoy would be building huge mounds, pushing gigantic tires or teeter-tottering over a mega mound. Which I’m sure you’re familiar with since this is EXACTLY what you spent your childhood days doing with your trucks. On the other hand, you could go the Excavator route and dig gigantic trenches, stack 2,000-pound tires or play Bucket Basketball.
Next up, the breathalyzer test. Oh you thought cause this was Vegas you could just operate these bad boys after a few beers? Try again. Before that happens though, the team overseeing the day will guide you through a brief overview of safety procedures. Next you pass your breathalyzer, because if you don’t, the dig is off and non-refundable. Back to the good stuff, time for your super-swanky neon yellow vest and ever-so-cool hardhat.
Great, now we’re ready, looking chic. Seated in your massive earth-mover, their instructors will walk you through the levers and buttons (maybe even scare you with stories of what happens when you don’t follow the rules), and then you’ll be set to maneuver the machine like a pro. To get you comfortable before your session begins, they’ve designed a series of warm-up exercises — for the other guys, not you, of course. Then when you’re all done, strap on a headset in order to communicate with the instructors if needed.
Finally, time to get digging or trenching, pushing, dragging? Whatever your heart desires, that dirt is yours. Once you’ve gotten out all your angst behind the wheel, you’ll be invited to celebrate your accomplishment with an award that you’ll be able to hang up on your wall. High fives all around.
The digs cost anywhere from $249 per person to $1,120 for a group of up to ten people. Or you can go for the Guns and Ammo Garage package which lets you shoot machine guns, rifles and handguns for the afternoon. And guys, you’ll probably want to bring your girlfriends along (or that pretty girl you met last night at the Marquee Nightclub) because, c’mon, how cute will she look with her hardhat on?
