There is no better way to kick off winter than with a trip up north to New Hampshire. Whether you are looking to enjoy that first snowfall of the season in style or seeking a quintessential New England getaway, there’s one White Mountains resort that offers the perfect escape.
Located in Whitefield, NH, Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa features quite the storied history. The property first got its start welcoming guests in 1865 when it opened as a small inn. Over the years, after several expansions, including the addition of a golf course, clubhouse, swimming pool, tennis courts, and more, the resort evolved into the world-famous luxury hotel that it is today.
Earlier this year, the historic property underwent yet another facelift, offering updates to the lobby, Harvest Tavern, Club House, and guest rooms.
In the lobby, walls were knocked down to open up the space and new furniture and tables were installed as well as light fixtures, booths, and new flooring.
Guest rooms now offer new bed wraps, bathroom lighting, throw blankets, pillows, makeup mirrors, mini bars, furniture, and high-end TVs with streaming capabilities.
An enormous veranda welcomes guests to sit back, relax, and soak in spectacular views of 57 mountain peaks that surround the resort.
This is also the perfect spot for a morning coffee from their recently expanded gift shop Mountain View Provisions, an afternoon cocktail from the Harvest Tavern Bar, or, if you are lucky like us, to take in a spectacular fireworks display hosted by a wedding party the weekend we visited.
During peak fall season, Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa is filled with leaf peepers looking to not only see the vibrant colors of turning leaves, but also check out some of the fun and unexpected outdoor activities found on property.
This fall, the property offered guests the opportunity to embark on a llama hike with some of the llama and alpaca herds found at the on-site farm. Cider pressing sessions (and tastings) were also offered on the weekends along with hayrides, offering family fun for all ages.
Some fun winter activities include an opportunity to meet the farmer and tour the farm; a walk along the grounds with a llama or goat; adult axe throwing; and water aerobics.
The pet-friendly property welcomes guests to stay with their four-legged friends in a classic room or upgraded suite.
Spacious Heritage Suites offer a king bed with separate living room and pullout sofa and have stunning views of the southern valley with peaks of Mount Lafayette and Cannon Mountain or partial views of the Kilkenny Range.
When it comes to dining, be sure to check out the on-site restaurant, Harvest Tavern. The local-focused restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner here daily.
An all-you-can-eat bountiful breakfast buffet is the perfect way to fuel up for the day.
For dinner, a basket of freshly baked breads is filled with a variety of specialty treats and accompanied by a side of creamy Vermont butter. The roasted Merguez sausage with apples and onions is another standout starter. For main events, try the chimichurri swordfish accompanied by a side of broccolini or the “Braveheart” ribeye with garlic herb cobbler potatoes and red wine rosemary jus.
Other fun family activities include evening campfires, snow tubing, sledding, cross-country skiing, ice skating, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, complimentary movies shown all day in the 16-seat theater, yoga classes, and swimming in the indoor pool.
In the warmer months, the year-round property also offers golf, tennis, disc golf, hiking, mountain biking, a bocce court, an outdoor chess set, and swimming in the outdoor pool.
For the ultimate indulgence, the on-site Tower Spa offers a variety of specialty treatments that range from a Classic Mountain Massage and an Uplifting Power Facial to a Grand Mountain Purifying Ritual and Nourishing Body Wrap.
Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa is located at 101 Mountain View Road in Whitefield, New Hampshire.
