If you are looking for a last-minute getaway at a surf lodge-inspired cottage, boy, do we have the perfect escape for you.
Cozy, cute and conveniently located, the adults-only, luxurious retreat known as The Wanderer can be found just steps from Kennebunk’s popular beaches and oceanfront dining.
The beautiful property opened earlier this summer with 17 adorable studio and one-bedroom standalone cottages designed for adults to “escape their stress and responsibilities,” as the website notes.
There are pet friendly studio cottages available for dogs under 60 pounds as well so you don’t have to leave your favorite four-legged friend at home.
The cottage collection is the brainchild of the founders of nearby Batson River Brewing & Distilling. Their goal, as the website states, was simple: “create a luxurious retreat in an Instagrammable setting with the amenities of a resort that’s close to everything.”
The small (studio) and large (one-bedroom) white clapboard cottages are outfitted with spa-inspired features in the bathroom, along with a wet bar with refrigerator large enough to accommodate drinks and takeout food, and a comfortable queen-size bed.
Each nautically designed cottage features an all-white interior with shiplap, cathedral ceilings and exposed beams, brass lighting, and black and white photos that don the walls. The large cottages offer a separate living area, but do not allow pets.
Every morning, breakfast is delivered to your cottage, hung on the hook right outside your door by 8:15 a.m. Goodies include Chobani Greek yogurt, fresh fruit and freshly baked muffins. There is a Keurig machine conveniently located inside the cottage offering a collection of coffees and creamers, so you can brew your own fresh cup each morning.
Each cottage comes complete with two Adirondack chairs out front which is a great spot to enjoy morning coffee or an afternoon cocktail. Other amenities include a heated lounge pool and complimentary beach cruisers that encourage you to explore the beautiful Maine coast. There is also a fire pit and bocce court to enjoy some fun family time.
Whether you come for a weekend getaway or weeklong stay, the cottages offer the perfect retreat in a coastal Maine setting. There are three beaches located just a few minutes away from the property. Parsons Beach is ideal for striper fishing; Mother’s Beach is popular for families while the dog friendly Gooch’s Beach offers a fun playground for bocce, corn hole and surfing.
Other fun nearby activities include kayaking, boat tours, surfing, mountain biking, golf and shopping in Dock Square. A visit to Maine would be remiss without checking the obligatory lighthouse. Built in 1859, nearby Goat Island Lighthouse can be observed from the observation area in Cape Porpoise.
The Wanderer is located at 195 Sea Road in Kennebunk, Maine. Cottages are open from July 8 to October 23. An accessible cottage is also available as well as the two-bedroom home, On the Rocks, that features a full kitchen and two queen beds designed for families.
