Architecture firm Büro Ole Scheeren was reaching for the stars when they designed the MahaNakhon tower, literally. The structure, which was officially introduced to the world on Monday, is now Bangkok's tallest skyscraper. At 1,029 feet, the building has 77 towers filled with a mix of retail, hotel and residential units.
Planning for the tower began in 2009 by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas but was ultimately completed this year by Büro Ole Scheeren and PACE Development. Costing around $520 million to build, the structure features various levels of design that stick out of its façade, creating a pixilated look. Among its residences are 200 condos managed by Ritz-Carlton and are rumored to be priced at $1.2-$17 million.
The tower is also home to the Bangkok EDITION Hotel, Dean & Deluca’s, a VOGUE Lounge and L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon and Morimoto restaurants. Open to the public, the observation deck offers 360-degree scenic views of Bangkok. Although it’s currently the tallest, the proposed Rama IX Super Tower will overshadow it come 2019. The projected building will stand 2,018 feet tall, doubling the size of MahaNakhon.
