Sure, the new Oasis Eco Resort in Abu Dhabi looks cool, but what the heck are you supposed to do there for fun? The proposed development in the Liwa region of the United Arab Emirates is slated to open in 2020 and is being touted as “one of the greenest resorts in the world.” Designed by London-based Baharash Architecture, it will include sustainable features such as a zero-emission zone, wastewater recycling and a completely solar-paneled energy system.
Scheduled to begin construction in 2018, the structure will be built in a star shape surrounding a large pool of natural spring water. It will also employ wildlife biologists and conservation staff, and its roof will be made up of many, many solar panels (157,000 square feet in all). So far so good, right? Sure, we’re on board at this point, but other than all the typical hotel amenities: fitness facilities, spa, business center and 84 suites, there’s not much else going on in the area.
Sitting south of the capital of Abu Dhabi, from the above video you’ll notice the area is mostly a vast desert land with sand dunes and foliage surrounding it. The resort’s spring is meant to be used for recreational activities but we’re betting that will get old after a few hours, especially in that desert heat. Maybe this will be more of a honeymoon destination for couples wanting to chill in their rooms for most of the day (if you get what we’re saying). Either way, hopefully they factor in some cool experiences into their packages.
