Annually screening upwards of 30 features and more than 100 shorts, the Chicago Underground Film Festival is held each year at the Gene Siskel Film Center. The programme also takes in videos, animation, documentaries and experimental cinema.
The event was founded in 1994 to showcase independent cinema that challenges commercial expectations. The longest running underground film festival in the world, CUFF exists to showcase the defiantly independent filmmaker. Their mission is to promote films and videos that dissent radically in form, technique, or content from the "indie" mainstream. Previous programmes have included films ranging from blaxploitation retrospectives to punk documentaries and Greenwich Village-style experimentalism. |
