Are you ready for some fútbol? The Carolina Panthers have just remodeled their team-owned home field—the Bank of America Stadium—to make the space more accommodating for international soccer games they’ll be hosting there beginning this weekend. The renovations were completed earlier this month and include upgrades like larger video boards, escalators to the upper levels, a wraparound graphics board, new sound system, private clubs and luxury suites.
The luxury suites have been renovated according to the most popular guest requests. Now they offer fully-opening windows, stadium seating, radiant heating for the winter seasons, a minimum of five flat screen TV's, in-wall USB chargers and smart phone plug-ins, double the amount of kitchen appliances and refrigerators, and a larger restroom.
The remodel was part of a deal with the city which granted the Carolina Panthers $75 million of taxpayers’ money if they stayed in Charlotte for another six seasons. The team also agreed to provide five “rent free” days for the city so that the space could be used for local events. In addition to Charlotte’s $75 million contribution, the Panthers put in roughly $37.5 million for a total of $112.5 million. While the first phase of the project is complete, the stadium is not expected to be fully finished for another three years.
