Laundry and art may not normally go hand in hand, but Electrolux doesn’t see it that way. The appliance manufacturer will be sponsoring the latest exhibit at the Mint Museum of Art entitled Halston & Warhol: Silver & Suede. Running from March 7 to June 14, the event will showcase over 40 designs from fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick paired with paintings, prints and videos by Andy Warhol. Aside from being close friends, the two creatives did much to change the artistic landscape of the ‘70s and this exhibit reflects their contributions.
For the special event Electrolux designers Justin Michal and Lee Fain were called upon to create two pairs of washers and dryers inspired by the art of Warhol. “Pulling inspiration from the legendary fashion designer and pop artist was something you don’t get to do every day,” said Fain. “We were thrilled to wrap our innovative appliances in a creative way,” added Michal. The four machines are a part of the brand’s new 24-inch Front Load Compact Washer and Dryer line, and feature the quirky-colored screen printing that made Warhol so iconic.
