One of the best things about summertime admittedly is dining alfresco.
It’s even better when the restaurant serves up a spectacular seaside view from a harbor front patio.
That’s just what The Beth Kitchen & Bar in Hingham, Mass. offers.
Nestled in the Hingham Shipyard overlooking Hingham Bay about 30 minutes south of Boston, the waterfront restaurant offers some of the best vistas on the South Shore. Whether you come here during the summertime to enjoy some live entertainment or prefer to belly up to the bar after an afternoon of retail therapy at the nearby shops during the cooler months, The Beth has become a year-round favorite of many locals.
We recommend getting started with one of their creative cocktails. Choose from specialties like a peach iced tea mule or white sangria with watermelon.
Service can be slow at times, but the kitchen is always consistent serving up delicious fare. There is a nice selection of raw and chilled offerings that includes a spicy tuna roll, volcano roll, shrimp tempura roll, and tuna poke nachos.
Be sure to try their New England clam chowder, a delicious combination of fresh clams and chunks of potatoes served up in a not-too-thick creamy base accompanied by a packet of oyster crackers.
There are several starters designed for sharing. Choose from sweet chili glazed shrimp, spicy tuna tartare rice cakes, local burrata, crispy brined wings, and charred Brussels sprouts.
If you come here for drinks and an appetizer to share, you can’t go wrong with the soft pretzels served with horseradish smoked bacon beer cheese; fish tacos filled with blackened haddock; Japanese-style blueberry hoisin sticky ribs; or a dip trio featuring green goddess, summer baba ghanoush, and pesto hummus served with fresh carrots, sliced cucumbers and warm naan bread.
One of our favorite starters is the sausage and hot honey flatbread. Topped with fennel sausage, fresh mozzarella, garlic and basil, the crispy pie is then drizzled with spicy calabrese honey.
For main events, the dinner menu features everything from chicken Milanese, baked haddock, and steak frites to fish and chips, a quinoa power bowl, and lobster roll. The standout here is the pan-seared salmon entree topped with a sweet and spicy chili glaze served atop a bed of coconut jasmine rice accompanied by a side of baby bok choy.
If you saved room for dessert, the menu features vanilla crème brulee, a s’mores tartlet, dark chocolate cake, creamy cheesecake, and churro waffle sundae.
The Beth Kitchen & Bar is located at 18 Shipyard Drive in Hingham, Mass.
