Quit with the holier than thou attitude and get thyself to Church. We’re not talking about the Catholic, Protestant or Baptist kind of holy ground. More like the hidden neighborhood restaurant located near Fenway Park type of Church.
Located in the former Linwood Grill space, Church focuses on classic comfort fare with a modern twist. Think truffled white bean dip with grilled pita bread and roasted fig and prosciutto flatbread with creamy ricotta and crispy shallots.
Head into the main dining room and grab a table for a traditional dinner or pretend you are eating at home in your living room on one of the sumptuous couches for a more casual bite. The large open space is decorated with funky artwork commissioned by several local artists.
The comfortable gothic-style restaurant, which recently introduced a new dinner and bar menu, compliments of Chef John Rush, focuses on shared plates and has an impressive beer list with some unique finds like Ballast Point IPA. Our server told us the day’s specials included beet-cured salmon and pan seared Irish trout. We loved the crispy golden fried chicken wings, not your traditional Buffalo style, but tossed in a tasty grilled scallion vinaigrette with Thai basil and granulated garlic.
For main events, don’t miss the uber juicy citrus and herb roasted half chicken topped with pan gravy and served with a side of fiery chili roasted sweet potato wedges and cheesy broccoli cheddar gratin. The braised lamb pappardelle was a complex dish of flavors from the dried cherries and wild mushrooms to the shaved parm and hazelnut gremolata.
Editor's Tip: Be sure to arrive at the restaurant early if you are looking for a quiet dinner as the other side of Church transforms at night into a live music venue. Church is located at 69 Kilmarnock Street in Boston.
