Beauty is not only skin deep. Just ask Jasmina Aganovic, both the beauty and brains behind skincare line Bona Clara. A Boston MIT graduate, Aganovic earned a degree in chemical engineering before launching Stages of Beauty, an age-specific skincare line.?The company grew so quickly,? Aganovic said ?[it was] flattering to hear that women were not only talking about the results, but were also interested in learning what?s going on with their skin.?
When Aganovic's first line, Stages of Beauty launched, the brand quickly grew to 200,000 customers in its first year. ?I wanted to create a direct sales model for our second line,? Aganovic explained. ?You can purchase the products online and through our brand reps.? Bona Clara, which is based in Boston, consists of four lines specifically formulated to address the biological changes in a women?s skin during her 20?s, 30?s, 40?s, and 50?s+. Each line consists of beauty routine basics, including a cleanser, scrub, serum, toner and a treatment cream.
Additional products such as makeup remover, sunscreen and night cream allow women to tailor their anti-aging regimen to suit their individual needs, budget and schedule. Aganovic has been researching skincare since she was just a teenager. “I have been interested in beauty products since I was about 14,” she said. “I liked learning about products and reading magazines like Allure; it encouraged me to study science. It wasn’t your typical career path but it was something I always wanted to do.”
Bona Clara has also made strives to develop products that are nature-based and free of chemicals or controversial preservatives such as parabens. The products can purchased online or with the line's associated brand reps; however, Bona Clara offers a hosting option, allowing participants to receive special discounts and product credits. In the same "social selling" vein, the company has developed a platform for those interested in becoming part of the company's structure as individual brand reps. Age group lines start at $150.00.
