The holidays are over but the kids are still on break. What to do? Head on over to the recently opened Make Meaning store at Legacy Place in Dedham. A child’s wonderland, this fun store was designed for kids and adults of all ages. Here kids can get in touch with their inner creative side and decorate cakes, make their own candles, design some jewelry, paint some ceramics or even make a glass design. I recently visited the Dedham location with my two, 10 year-old nieces who had a blast creating their own colorful candles and designing a personal sized cake.
Once you arrive, you will be greeted by a specialist who will take you through the variety of options so you can see how each one works before deciding which activity you would like to start first. Once we picked out all of the colorful wax blocks that we wanted for our candles, we brought them over to a separate area where paraffin wax is then poured over the blocks and formed into a mold. The candle must then cool and harden in a water tank for 40 minutes.
We moved along to the cake decorating section where we were given a pre-baked cake covered in fondant icing. From there, the kids had a blast choosing edible spray-on food coloring then a variety of toppings like ballerinas, Christmas trees and deer to create a winter wonderland. Be sure to get the $36 annual membership, which entitles you to only pay the price of each creative experience. If you only want to try once, then you can simply purchase a $12 day pass plus the cost of each individual experience. Make Meaning is located at 228 Legacy Place in Dedham.
