In search of somewhere new and lively in Boston for dinner? If so, then head on over to Granary Tavern, a huge, cool pub on the Greenway, just steps from Faneuil Hall. The pub has two floors and two bars and is brought to you by Glynn Hospitality Group (the same folks behind The Black Rose, Clery’s, Dillon’s and Coogan’s to name a few). Inside, the cozy atmosphere boasts exposed brick walls, a rustic look, lively pub atmosphere and comfort fare focused menu.
The menu here is very casual (and cheap) with snacks like garlic chips and dip, spiced popcorn and sweet potato fries. Skip the Harpoon IPA and cheese fondue, which was more watery than cheesy and opt instead for the addicting braised Colorado lamb and feta flatbread topped with grilled scallions, parmesan cheese and a sweet golden raisin pesto. The main events really shine here with dishes like the spicy meatball capellini (made with beef and pork meatballs) atop a bed of fresh pasta, tomato confit, parmesan and braised short ribs with carrots and onions served over pappardelle pasta, pearl onions in a rich red wine sauce.
Other entrees, which go great with a local microbrew, include Berkshire pork loin, pan seared scallops and the more casual yet very tasty fish and chips and chicken and waffles. The restaurant, which sits in the Charles Bulfinch designed building constructed in 1816, is located at the end of Milk Street and is the newest addition to the Glynn Hospitality Group portfolio of restaurants.
