You’ve worked hard all week so it’s time to celebrate. Go on, you deserve it. Even if you don’t there is never a bad excuse for heading out to dinner at Abe & Louie’s. The Back Bay steakhouse has recently made some changes but don’t fear, it’s all for the better. Think new cocktail list and by-the-glass wine options, a redesigned dessert menu, and a new general manager. When you first arrive, be sure to head over to the bustling bar for a glass of new wine selections, including 2006 Louis Latour,"Blagny,” 1er Cru, Meursault, Burgundy, 2004 Fossacolle Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, and 2008 Trefethen Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley.
If you are not in the mood for wine then try one of their signature cocktails, like the Bostonian with Rittenhouse Rye 100, Carpano Antica, Disaronno and Orange Bitters, Bordeaux with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Lillet Blanc, and orange zest, the Judy Garland with Stoli Vanil, Disaronno Amaretto, pineapple juice, and sparkling brut or our favorite, the Abe & Louie’s Espresso Martini with Stoli Vanil, Kahlua, Bailey’s and espresso. We were seated in the main dining room which was filled to capacity on a recent Thursday evening. Our server got us started with a bottle of Hess Collection 2009 Allomi Vineyard cabernet and presented us with a warm fresh bread basket.
For appetizers, don’t miss the uber fresh shrimp cocktail with spicy cocktail sauce. The crab cake here is one of the best in the city, prepared with just a hint of breadcrumbs and made entirely with fresh crab complemented by a sweet mango salsa. The bone-in filet mignon is one of their signature dishes and should not be missed. Cooked on the bone, this juicy cut had so much extra flavor while still retaining its tenderness. The creamed spinach, mushrooms, and mac and cheese were delicious accompaniments, and the sides are large enough to be shared between two guests. End your night right with a sampling of the warm gooey chocolate chip cookie skillet with creamy vanilla ice cream, rich chocolate sauce and candied pecans. It’s so good you may want to get your own.
