Not all Italian food is created equal. Just ask anyone who has been to Maggiano’s. From homemade sauces to indulgent desserts, practically everything is made in-house and on-premises. The enormous restaurant is located across from the Boston Park Plaza Hotel and is a great spot for some pre or post-theater family style dining. There is a large bar at the main entrance as soon as you walk in surrounded by a massive dining room lined with red and white clothed tables and booths. (Be sure to ask for a window table for some fun people watching).
Start off with a sampling of enormous stuffed mushrooms overflowing with spinach and seasoned breadcrumbs, served in a savory garlic white wine sauce. We also loved the tomato caprese salad topped with creamy mozzarella and fresh basil, drizzled with a balsamic glaze. Don’t miss the specialty dish – Taylor Street Baked Ziti, a delicious combination of Italian sausage, pomodoro sauce and ziti topped with a layer of melted Provolone and Parmesan. One of our favorite dishes here is a classic but they do it so well with their flavorful red sauce, sliced eggplant, breaded and fried, layered with Provolone cheese and homemade marinara sauce.
Desserts here should not be missed. Although large enough to share, if you choose to indulge separately, be sure to ask for the remainder to go. The tiramisu is one of the best in the city – super light, creamy and chocolatey. Ladyfinger cookies are soaked in rich espresso and coffee liqueur layered with Mascarpone, dusted with cocoa powder and served with chocolate shavings. The New York style cheesecake is rich and creamy made with Ricotta cheese topped with fresh berries and whipped cream.
Maggiano’s Little Italy is located at 4 Columbus Avenue, Boston. For reservations or more information, visit Maggianos.com or call (617) 542-3456.
