While there are a multitude of best Boston restaurants and steakhouses to choose from, there is one that stands apart from the rest with its consistent service, first rate cuts of beef, and historic location – Ruth’s Chris Steak House. From the moment you step inside the historic Old City Hall building and into Curley’s, the restaurant’s beautiful bar with high ceilings which was named after former Mayor, James Michael Curley, you know you are in for something special. We recently visited the restaurant’s intimate dining room where we were greeted by our friendly server Cynthia.
With some recent additions to the menu, Ruth’s Chris now offers every steak served either bone-in or off the bone, including the filet mignon. We started with a delicious sampling of fresh shucked oysters, served with spicy horseradish sauce along with one of their signature appetizers. The four tender broiled jumbo mushroom caps arrived overstuffed with lump crabmeat and topped with Romano cheese. The bone-in New York sirloin was melt-in-your-mouth tender and cooked to a medium rare perfection.
The cowboy rib eye was also perfectly cooked to our liking, and was a well marbled juicy cut of beef. Sides here are enormous and meant to be shared. We couldn’t get enough of the cheesy broccoli au gratin, topped with melted sharp cheddar, and the potatoes au gratin made with a rich and creamy three cheese sauce. Other dishes include a New Orleans style barbecued shrimp, stuffed chicken breast, Maine lobster, and extra thick lamb chops. While we did not save room for dessert, our server did tell us about the specialty dessert available, the molten chocolate lava cake, which sounded heavenly.
The menu has recently been enhanced compliments of Andy Ortiz, who became the executive chef in June 2011. Ortiz, who is originally from the Dominican Republic, had been working for Ruth’s Chris Boca Raton location for the past six years before becoming the executive chef at the Boston property. “I take great pride in everything I do and pay attention to details,” Ortiz said. “I am also very passionate and work hard. I was very grateful when the opportunity presented itself for me to become the executive chef at the Ruth’s Chris location in Boston.”
Ruth’s Chris is located at 45 School Street, Boston. For more information, call 617.742.8401 or visit RuthChris.com.
