Up until recently there have not been many hotels with a focus on green initiatives, but Westin has introduced a new line of eco-friendly hotels known as Element that does just that.
From water-efficient fixtures and energy-efficient appliances to an extensive recycling program, the property is at the forefront of hotels focusing on a more natural place to stay. We recently visited the location in Lexington, Massachusetts, situated just 20 minutes north of Boston.
The friendly front desk receptionist greeted us upon arrival and was knowledgeable about the hotel’s "green" practices, pointing out art made of recycled parts and a sustainably designed lobby (below).
Guests love Element's modern property for extended visits as each guest room features a fully equipped kitchen and a separate recreational space for studio-style living. Want to bring your four-legged friend along? No problem. The pet friendly hotel not only welcomes dogs but rolls out the red carpet providing dog bowls, beds and even a selection of organic treats.
Guest rooms (below) feature flat screen televisions and sleek work spaces and bathrooms that feature water-efficient amenities designed to save 5,300 gallons of water each year. The sofa cushions are made from soy, the artwork is mounted on recycled tires, and the flooring is made from 25 percent recycled material. Each room is equipped with recycling bins for glass, paper and plastic waste.
If you want to fit-in a workout during your stay, head down to the fitness center located on the first floor. Looking to cool off after? Take a swim in the adjacent indoor pool. You are guaranteed an incredible night’s sleep after waking up in Element's Heavenly Beds, a brand that the Westin is well-known for.
Kick off the morning right with a a complimentary continental breakfast found in the main lobby (below) and select from a well-rounded spread that includes hot sandwiches, cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, bagels, toast and pastries.
