Restaurateur Euz Azevedo and his Boston Nightlife Ventures team (the folks behind Noche, The Federal and The Tap) have recently opened Forum Restaurant in the former Vox Populi space in the Back Bay.
Executive Chef Jared Chianciola has prepared a fun and flavorful menu that reflects his culinary talents – think BLT soup and sweetbreads with parsnip, frisee and bacon vinaigrette. We started off our evening here with a sampling of the delicious scallop crudo with pickled radishes, salmon roe and spicy jalapeno oil.
Our friendly server, Erin, insisted we try the raviolo and we were certainly glad she did – a decadently rich combination of bacon and ricotta were delicately prepared in a pillowy ravioli combined with a perfectly cooked egg yolk that oozed over the creamy concoction. The dish is typically served with black truffles but they were out of them the evening we visited.
The caprese salad was large enough to share and comprised of three heirloom tomatoes with house made creamy mozzarella topped with balsamic. The pasta dishes should not be missed. We sampled the ricotta gnocchi topped with fresh lobster and beurre blanc.
We also loved the striped bass; two hearty pieces of white fish arrived topped with fava beans, English peas and served with a side of white asparagus. However, the winning dish of the evening was the tender and juicy short ribs, which Chef Jared told us were cooked for 72 hours and served in a red wine sauce atop spicy jalapeno polenta and summer squash.
There were four desserts on the menu the evening we visited: chocolate mousse, almond cake, sticky date bread and strawberry soup; and they are portioned large enough to share. Take our word for it, each one is worth the extra indulgence. Forum is located at 755 Boylston Street in Boston.
