You know summer is right around the corner in Boston when the deck opens at The Barking Crab. Sitting literally on the water, the clam shack offers an encompassing ocean view from every seat.
The restaurant has recently rolled out a new menu with New England boiled pots featured prominently in the center of the menu, which are meant to be shared. Our server said The Rockport is one of their most popular additions offering two whole Maine lobsters, six shrimp, one pound of clams (all are served with chourico, corn on the cob and red bliss potatoes).
The Duxbury also sounded tempting - two whole Jonah crabs, one pound of snow crab legs, six shrimp and the standard accompaniments. Our server told us they only open one side of the restaurant at a time. The communal deck area was opened the evening we went complete with casual seating on picnic benches for a fun social experience with other guests.
Don't miss the fun crabby rum punch served in a plastic "guppy bowl" filled to the brim with Bacardi Cruzan coconut, Absolut Raz, blue Curacao, sour mix and Sprite. We started off with the delicious Prince Edward Island mussels as an appetizer simmered with white wine, lemon juice, tomatoes, garlic and thyme. Our server advised us Chilean sea bass was the special for the evening.
We sampled the savory fire grilled lobster - a 1.25 Maine lobster split and topped with garlic butter and served a choice of two sides. I chose mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley. Our neighbors were enjoying the Aquidneck platter, an enormous sampling of a three-pound Maine lobster, one pound of snow crab clusters and yet another pound of Dungeness crab legs. If you're really hungry, be sure to indulge in the King platter - a gargantuan 10-pound lobster served alongside a four-pound mixed crab bowl for $289.
