It’s time to say goodbye to the Pep Boys in downtown Jersey City. Plans for a new residential tower on the site are currently underway. While the property’s lead developer, Forest City, has yet to go before the city’s Planning Board for approval, early designs for the building have already been outlined. The residence will hold 421 units and over 12,000-square-feet of retail space on a four-acre site near the Harsimus Cove station. Of course, this will only be the first step in the development of the area, as the building is expected to be a part of the proposed project Hudson Exchange West.
The developer for the Hudson Exchange West is unknown, but Forest City, which also had a hand in the development of Barclays Center in New York and The Yards and Waterfront Station in Washington D.C., seems to top the list, especially since they already have their hands in the Pep Boys tower project. While no dates or plans have been finalized as of yet, it seems the project is under way as the site’s architect, Perkins Eastman, posted renderings of the property only to take them down days later.
