Revel, Atlantic City’s newest luxury resort gives guests two more reasons to love the beachfront property. Iron Chef and James Beard award-winner Chef Jose Garces has opened up Yubōka, a dim sum and noodle house, and a new food truck based off of his restaurant Distrito Cantina. Along with the help of his talented team, Chef Garces has made sure to consult some of the best chefs around to perfect his menu at Yubōka.
Working with Dim Sum Garden’s fifth-generation chef-owner Da Shizhou and daughter Sally, Chef Garces was able to consult with the pair on the family’s famous Xiao Long Bao, or Shanghai soup dumplings. Yubōka’s menu sizzles with dishes like Chicken Wings with spicy garlic-ginger sauce; Lamb Burger, wok-fried cumin lamb on a house-made steamed bun; and Pork Ramen with pork belly, zha chai, fish cake and poached egg.
Chef Garces’ accomplishments are vast, as he has been a part of some of the best bars and restaurants in the country. In Philadelphia his restaurants include Amada, an authentic Andalusian tapas bar; Tinto, a wine bar and restaurant inspired by the Basque region of Northern Spain and Southern France; and Chifa, a Latin-Asian restaurant named after the Peruvian eateries of the same name. In Chicago, as the executive chef of the Catalan restaurant Mercat a la Planxa, he has been praised for his work with Mercat making Esquire magazine’s list of “20 Best New Restaurants, 2008.”
This year, he brought his flavors to Atlantic City with Amada, Village Whiskey, Distrito Cantina and Yubōka. In addition to its mouth-watering entrées, Yubōka also features signature cocktails including Crouching Tiger with white wine, sake, and lychee and Hidden Dragon with gin, melon, and Thai Chile. For those who prefer to keep it simple, domestic, craft and imported beers are available alongside wine, sake and tea options.
However, those looking to spend time outdoors and still get a taste of Garces’ cuisine can easily do so with the introduction of his mobile food truck. Already a staple at Revel, his indoor Distrito Cantina Mexican restaurant now features a mobile sidekick serving up many of the same favorites. During the summer, the truck will be available each weekend on the boardwalk at Revel Beach from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. With Chef de Cuisine Maria Schmidt at its helm, the truck offers fresh guacamole, crave-worthy tacos and cold, non-alcoholic drinks.
While Revel’s 14 restaurants are sure to peak any foodie’s interest at the 6.3 million-square-foot hotel, we can’t wait to see what guests have to say about the newest additions to the family. Yubōka is open for lunch, dinner and late-night dining daily so you’ll have every opportunity to try the authentic and innovative cuisine of Chef Garces.
