Mar 6, 2013 | Contributor: Sally Farris Villa Villino in Southeastern Sicily was conceived out of some interesting circumstances. The story begins when a Russian Admiral by the name of Nicolaiev (later changed to Nicolaci) found himself shipwrecked on the Sicilian coast. Rather than being frightened and homesick for the blistering wasteland of Russia, he chose to make the location his permanent home.... Read More |
Mar 1, 2013 | Contributor: Sally Farris Want to sleep in the same bed as Derek Jeter or wade around in a pool that Prince William swam in? If you book a stay at Sunset House in Tortola, those fantasies can come true. Confession: I don't know that those specific people have stayed here; but, the villa does claim to have hosted British Royalty and high-profile sports players, so feel free to use your imagination like I did.... Feb 27, 2013 | Contributor: Carly Zinderman Designer Philippe Stark's brilliant vision is heading to Indonesia. A private village of 12 limited edition villas with signature glass facades by artist JonOne and designed by Stark is due to begin breaking ground in 2013. Set in the Petitenget neighborhood of Seminyak, Bali, The Stairs Villa Hotel will be the first Stark designed project in the country. Inspired by a vision of vibrant streets across the world coming together in a monolithic 65-foot-wide stairway, the property will include a café patisserie, restaurant, bar lounge, boutique, mezzanine bibliothèque, signature spa, and workout facilities. "The Stairs, without a doubt, shall become the boiling bucket of energy, activity and intelligence of Bali, and perhaps more," describes Philippe Starck, the brainchild behind the design... Feb 22, 2013 | Contributor: Janice Nieder | 2 Comments Sri Panwa reminds me of Angelina Jolie in the sense that she’s gorgeous from every angle, so it's virtually impossible to take a bad picture of her. Because of that, it’s hardly surprising that just one of the property’s many awards is 'Hotel with the Best View in the World' from Beach Tomato. Before I tell you why I was so completely enamored with this family-owned hotel, however, let’s get the cons out of the way. ... Read More |

Jan 31, 2013 | Contributor: Jared Paul Stern An ultra-luxurious compound on the ritzy resort island of St. Barts in the French West Indies has been listed by Sibarth Real Estate, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, for about $60 million. The exclusive estate, which is comprised of three sumptuous villas, is perched above posh Gouverneur Bay, the same piece of prime real estate as the $89 million property Roman Abramovich purchased in 2009.... Jan 23, 2013 | Contributor: Carol Driver The streets of Alghero are impossibly postcard-pretty—winding alleyways with cobbled pavements, colorful buildings, and a stunning view of the azure Mediterranean Sea. My husband and I are sipping cocktails alfresco, in one of the many bars lining the old town wall. There's a reason why we picked this spot; the same reason all the seats around us are taken, and that crowds are gathering along the wall overlooking the calm water: the sunset.... Read More |
Jan 22, 2013 | Contributor: Sally Farris Set on six acres of a working Friesian Horse ranch, Black Sterling Villa overlooks the Sonoma Valley and its sprawling vineyard landscape. The privately gated luxury villa is only seven minutes from downtown Sonoma Plaza and a 30-minute drive from the Golden Gate Bridge, despite its markedly rural setting. The ivy encrusted facade gives it an antiquated and hidden feel, adding to the appeal of this family-friendly, Northern California abode.... Read More |
