Mar 21, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien There’s nothing quite like filing your closet with major designers and labels, but we also think you should make some room for the next big names in fashion. ... Read More |
Mar 16, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien If you haven’t heard of Azeeza Khan then you’ll want to take note: the Chicago-based designer has been slowly but surely working her way into the industry over the past couple of years, flying just under the radar. She’s dressed celebrities, has been formally noted by both Louis Vuitton and Forbes as the go-to label in Chicago and just signed a deal with Barneys New York. ... Read More |
Mar 10, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien If Finnish house Marimekko is known for anything it’s their eccentric prints. The sophomore collection from Creative Director Anna Teurnell followed this formula to the letter, as she sent big patterns on cuddly outerwear down the runway. “The Fall/Winter 2016 collection is an ode to originality and empowered women. Marimekko is about appreciating the imperfection and personality—being true to oneself,” Teurnell said of the lineup. ... Read More |
Mar 10, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien Fashion is a multi-trillion dollar a year industry, and everyone is trying to get a slice of the pie. Everyday new designers are attempting to make it big in a notoriously cutthroat industry, and very few succeed. The ones that do either grow their name into a respectable sized label or build their names into billion-dollar empires of apparel, fragrances and accessories. ... Read More |
Mar 10, 2016 | Contributor: JustLuxe Team Smythson tapped English actors Vanessa Kirby and James Norton as the brand ambassadors of their Spring 2016 Behind the Craft campaign. In an effort to pay homage to those who spend their lives perfecting their art, the brand focuses on the professional work of the two young talents. Smythson has a history of supporting the London theater, which they feel closely resembles their own traditions and culture. ... Read More |
Mar 9, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien Winter was on Giambattista Valli’s mind when he presented the Moncler Gamme Rouge Fall 2016 collection today at Paris Fashion Week. The runway more closely resembled a ski run, with models walking along a snowy path, the mountains of the Swiss Alps looming in the background. The designs however, were much less sportswear and instead tapped the traditional garments of the Swiss and Germanic region for inspiration. ... Read More |
Mar 9, 2016 | Contributor: Kelly O'Reilly In true 2016 style, Arthur Arbesser ascended to his new role as Iceberg creative director as a result of an Instagram exchange with parent company Gilman CEO and artistic director Paolo Gerani. Gerani recounted the like-comment-switch-to-IRL proce ... Read More |
Mar 8, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien Karl Lagerfeld is known for putting on a theatrical presentation every season, which is probably why the Chanel Fall 2016 runway felt so surprising—or perhaps more appropriately—like a breath of fresh air. Instead of an airport, casino, supermarket or the like, the Grand Palais was simply decorated with white floors, golden chairs and only one row along the catwalk. Yep, everyone invited to the Chanel show had a front row seat. ... Read More |
Mar 8, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien Known for her abstract designs, Iris Van Herpen showcased her Fall 2016 collection, Lucid, with a runway show and art installation piece. Models walked around a dark room moving through a series of glass panels that distorted their image like a carnival hall of mirrors. The dresses, which were already extremely architectural and otherworldly in design, looked even more unearthly through their magnified reflections. We can’t say we’ve had any lucid dreams quite like it. ... Read More |
Mar 7, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien Names like Kate Bush and Stevie Nicks were tossed around when Roland Mouret was designing his Fall 2016 collection and both were seen on the runway this weekend. The collection channeled the two musicians faithfully, without venturing into costume territory, and were completely reimagined and interpreted for a modern audience. ... Read More |
Mar 7, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien Bringing together the best—or perhaps the most extravagant—looks of ‘90s supermodels and Las Vegas nightlife, Zuhair Murad celebrated glamour and sensuality with a collection of flashy party wear. Tapping fashion icons like Cher, Michael Jackson and Cindy Crawford for inspiration, he designed a line saturated with embellishments, skin-baring cuts and more than a few ultra-lush fabrics. ... Mar 7, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien We love fashion for fashion’s sake. Avant garde designs, exotic textiles and embellishments, and over-the-top structure all catches our eye and sparks our imagination. Which is great on the runway, but not so stellar once it finally reaches our closet. Somewhere between runway and retail, designers have to find what will work, what won’t and how they can translate the creativity and drama of the catwalk into a palpable, wearable collection. ... Mar 4, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien Isabel Marant knows how to create approachable, wearable pieces. Things were no different on the Fall 2016 runway at Paris Fashion Week today when she sent out a feel-good collection of ‘80s-inspired collegiate wear. “It reminded me of this time in the mid-Eighties when we had a lot of fun,” she told WWD backstage. ... Mar 3, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien There’s absolutely no way to mention Balmain without also acknowledging creative director Olivier Rousteing, his BFFs the Kardashians and his squad of supermodel friends. The brand drove the point home this season with a show that starred Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid, with Kris Jenner and Kanye West sitting front row. Kim was there too, in spirit, as the entire collection was inspired by those iconic curves. ... Read More |
Mar 3, 2016 | Contributor: Marissa Stempien Season after season, Julien Dossena has faithfully recreated the sci-fi aesthetic of Paco Rabanne’s founder. But for Fall 2016, he presented a lineup of original, more wearable pieces. To make the collection more accessible and appealing to a wider audience, he used multiple sources of inspiration. At times it felt convoluted and complicated, but a few pieces hit their mark, like a series of paper bag trousers and turtleneck dresses. ... Read More |
