Luxury Cars: AMG is calling its new 5.5-liter V8 engine with twin turbochargers "one of the most powerful V8s on the planet." It has more horsepower and achieves 25 percent better fuel economy than the 6.3-liter V8 engine it is replacing in the
S63 AMG sedan and
CL 63 AMG coupe.
Along with twin turbochargers, the smaller yet more powerful engine features direct-fuel injection, start/top technology, and a multi-spark ignition. The new engine has 3.5 percent more horsepower and 28 percent more pound/foot torque.
The fuel system is the third generation of Mercedes-Benz gasoline direct injection systems. Of course, the luxury vehicles housing the new AMG V 8 engine, the S63 AMG sedan and the CL 63 AMG coupe are as stupendous as ever.
