Lamborghini Working On Special Model For 2013 50th Anniversary?

Luxury Cars: It was back in 1963 that Ferruccio Lamborghini, the then owner of a tractor company, decided to start building his own range of high-performance cars.

That means Lamborghini the automaker is now just two years out from celebrating its 50th anniversary--a remarkable achievement for a company with a history as tumultuous as that experienced by the Italian supercar brand.

In the past Lamborghini has traditionally celebrated such milestones with the unveiling of special models, such as the previous 25th anniversary Countach and 40th anniversary Murcielago. Now there are whispers that the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini will spawn something special as well, due out in 2013.

There’s no word on what that model may turn out to be but with the Murcielago’s replacement, the ‘Aventador’ LP700-4, set to be unveiled at March’s 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini’s other model, the Gallardo, will be long overdue for its redesign by the time 2013 rolls in.

Another possibility could be the announcement of a limited production run of the Sesto Elemento concept car, a model that would be built strictly for the track use and kept as exclusive as previous special edition models such as the Reventon.

Lamborghini is yet to make any comment on the issue but we’d doubt the automaker would let such a historic milestone pass by uncelebrated.
