Travel is back, and summer sojourns are in full swing. Exciting, yes, but the joy of adventure is tempered with a bit of worry and confusion about varied restrictions, rules, and regulations. To help quell apprehension, anxious travelers have found calm with CBD products that can help support anxiety management, promote stress relief and relaxation, and help to reduce fatigue associated with spending hours on a plane, a bus, or in a car. Travel takes a toll on the body and the mind; CBD can help maintain healthy habits that influence faster and better recovery.
But what are the legalities of traveling with CBD? Brook Bacon, vice president of marketing at Sky Wellness, a brand of premium CBD wellness products, shares their knowledge about the legalities of traveling with CBD items. “Before getting into what’s allowed and what’s not, we need to clarify that Cannabidiol or CBD for short, is typically derived from hemp,” said Bacon. “Please note, the products to which we refer contain CBD and are free of THC which is the main psychoactive chemical in cannabis.
“Both CBD and CBG are an appealing option to support a healthy lifestyle,” continued Bacon. “Our affordable, premium THC-free, full spectrum and isolate hemp-derived CBD products are designed to elevate health, enhance well-being and make life… feel better. Unlike other brands within the industry, Sky Wellness products are made only from the highest quality raw materials in the cleanest, safest, certified facilities, all verified via rigorous third-party testing.”
In regard to travel, Sky Wellness (referred to as the ‘feelings and flavors’ CBD company by most of its customers) has created products designed to deliver experiences. “According to the 2018 Farm Bill, CBD is legal in all 50 states,” said Bacon. “CBD is proven to be a non-harmful substance and was removed from the TSA’s ‘cannot fly list.’ That means as long as a product is THC free, travelers are free to carry it throughout the country. Just make sure that if you are carrying on, and you’re traveling with a lotion, gel or other liquid, that the item adheres to the 3.4-ounce limit required by the TSA.”
While this is great news to many, international travel maintains its own protocols. “As borders start to open up, we recommend that travelers be diligent with checking the international rules and regulations on CBD with the foreign country or countries you will be visiting,” said Bacon. “The laws are constantly changing and vary from country to country. It gets even more confusing if you are traveling by cruise ship. We recommend contacting your cruise line directly for more information on what is safe to bring onboard.”
Sky Wellness offers these additional tips for traveling with CBD:
* To reduce the amount of liquids with which you are traveling, CBD products in gummy, softgel, or pill form are recommended.
* The FAA does not allow vapes and other battery powered smoking devices in checked bags. But you can travel with them in your carry-on baggage or on your person.
* To avoid delays, never try to hide or disguise these products while you’re traveling.
* For international travel, when in doubt, it is best to leave your items at home
“With rules and regulations constantly changing, it’s best to be diligent with your research on the legalities of all cannabis products,” said Bacon. “We wish you the most fun and enjoyment with all your travel plans, and most importantly we hope you stay safe this summer!”
